Skin Hormones - Hormone Effect on Skin

There is a relationship between beauty and hormones. Hormones are produced by the organs in the system of a human body. Lack of hormones or excess of hormones in the body can prove disastrous. Hormones can be introduced in the system by way of pills or injections to regularize imbalance or make up deficiencies. They are of various types, but the ones which are associated with beauty are androgens, estrogens, thyroids, steroids, insulin and sex hormones.

Androgens are basically male hormones but women produce their own androgens in the adrenal gland. If there is excessive secretion of androgens, there will be excessive secretion of sebum of the sebaceous glands, which would cause acne of hair loss.

Stress and mental tension may bring about this condition but in such cases the imbalance of hormones may be balanced by taking estrogen pills. Estrogens are normally female hormones produced by the ovaries. They reduce the secretion of sebum, help to cure acne and pimples and benefit the skin by retarding wrinkles and making it clear and shiny. Estrogen pills are essential for women after the age of forty, except for those suffering from high blood pressure. Estrogen therapy sometimes causes harm to the skin, causing pigmentation and skin lesions, and estrogen pills generally lend to a gain in weight. Always follow treatment under medical supervision.

Thyroid hormones are secreted by thyroid glands. If there is a shortage of thyroid hormones in the system the skin becomes dry and wrinkled. Steroid hormones are produced by the adrenal glands and its excessive production causes skin infections, pigmentation of the skin and acne. Deficiency of insulin .hormones harms the complexion and causes skin fungus, bacterial infection and itching.

Sex hormones are generally of two types: male sex hormones and female sex hormones. Male sex hormones encourage growth of hair on the skin of the body, whereas female sex hormones encourage growth of hair on the scalp.
