ORF

Synonym: Ecthymacontagiosum; contagiouspustulardennatitis of sheep (Peterkin).

ORF is common in sheep from whom man occasionally becomes infected by contact. The initial lesion is single dark-red, painless, indurated papule, appearing on an exposed part of the body, usually the hands.

ORF slowly enlarges into a pustule with haemorrhage and surrounding inflammation.

Treatment of ORF

Spontaneous recovery takes place in 3 to 6 weeks, hence no treatment is required except to control secondary infection, if it occurs. Erythema multiforme may occur 1-2 weeks after orf.
