Gonorrhoea

Gonorrhoea is a bacterial infection sometimes called 'the clap'. It infects the down below area, the tube were your wee comes from, the bum hole & throat.

In men, the primary symptom of Gonorrhoea is painful urination. Levels of pain can often be extremely severe. Discharge is also seen from the urethra (the tube through which urine passes from the body). At first, this discharge is slimy and of limited quantity but it quickly develops into a more substantial yellowish substance.

In women, the symptoms of Gonorrhoea tend to be more limited, normally consisting of painful urination and an increasing amount of discharge from the vagina.

Gonorrhoea (Gonorrhea) can also affect the eyes. Gonococcal conjunctivitis is an infection of the thin, transparent conjunctiva (skin) covering the eye and inner eyelids. It occurs mostly in infants infected during vaginal birth, but adult infection can occur can occur via the fingers of either the individual or her or his partner.

You can be tested for gonorrhoea and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) at your local sexual health (GUM) clinic. Usually treatment in the early stages of the disease is quite simple. It involves taking antibiotics and some procedures for making your immune system stronger. Keep in mind that all your partners should take medical treatment, otherwise there is a high risk of re-infection.
