What is Elastolysis Mid Dermal?
Elastolysis mid dermal (EMD) is discovered by Shelley and Wood in 1977. In elastolysis mid dermal the elastic tissue in the mid dermis get affected while in general, it is unaffected. The skin around eyes, neckand face becomes loose. It occurs very rarely. EMD occurs due to the absence of elastic fibres. EMD mostly found in womens between the age of 20 to 60 years. Elastolysis mid dermal also associates with inflammatory event like urticaria & idiopathic.
Causes of Elastolysis Mid Dermal
- Abnormality in the copper metabolism is the main cause of EMD.
- Degradation in elastin gene expression & lysyl oxidase activity is the another cause of elastolysis mid dermal.
- Sometimes it linked with inflammatory event like urticaria & idiopathic.
What are the symptoms of Elastolysis Mid Dermal?
- Patient have notice that the skin becomes loose, inelastic and wrinkles are obtain on skin thats why patient looks become aged.
- Hiatal hernias, umbilical, & inguinal can occur.
- Generally skin around the eyes, the face, the neck get loose.
Treatment of Elastolysis Mid Dermal
- Dapsone like bactericidal and bacteriostatic against mycobacteria is the drug which is use to controle the swelling.
- Also there are surgical methods available to control over the wrinkles and looseness the skin.
- Some botulinum toxin injections are use to change aged look and face problems.
