Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation- Symptoms, Causes, Treatment
What is Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation?
Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) disease includes the consumptive coagulation which is one of the pathalogical process of the body in which blood starts to coagulate through body. This process include generation of tissue ischemia and organ damage through widespread microvascular thrombosis. In DIC blood circulation does not work properly thats why the clotting cells present in the blood get simulate together. And this excessive clotting leads to the damage of blood cells & bleeding. DIC associates with including sepsis, major trauma, and abruptio placenta. In this condition patient feel illness & somewhat weekness also. Consumptive coagulopathy is the another name for disseminated intravascular coagulation. DIC mainly occurs within the microcirculation.
Causes of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation
- The main cause of DIC is the unbalance of coagulation and anticoagulation.
- The small injury may turn to the DIC.
- Another causes of DIC are leukemia which present in the cancer, bacterial infection in blood & pregnancy complications.
- Irregular blood circulation.
- Certain other processes like surgery or shock, accidents & tissue trauma such as burns leads to DIC.
- Other infections like viral, fungal & parasitic.
What are the symptoms of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation?
- There are some common symptoms such as bleeding, mucosal bleeding, cough, dyspnea confusion, disorientation & fever.
- Generation of blood clots is more common.
- There may also lung damage, kidney damage becauise of which shortness of breath & low urine output take place.
- Bleeding is the comman and possibly from different organs of the body.
- Fibrinolytic & coagulation
defect may take place.
Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation Treatment
- Activated Protein C is use to control the growth of blood clotts.
- Blood clotting factors can be replaced with plasma transfusions.
- There may be also use of folic acid to prevent acute folate deficiency and impaired platelet production.
- Heparin is one of the treatment which use to prevent from bleeding.
