What is Angiolymphoid Hyperplasia with Eosinophilia ?
Angiolymphoid Hyperplasia with Eosinophilia is also known as pseudopyogenic granuloma, esinophilic Lymphofolliculitis, Kimura's disease, epithelioid hemangioma. Angiolymphoid Hyperplasia with Eosinophilia is a very rare and unique group of a single or multiple benign cutaneous vascular nodules mainly found on the head and neck. It can be more commonly seen in young adult females than in males. It can be rarely seen on some areas such as shoulders, hands, breasts etc.
Causes of Angiolymphoid Hyperplasia with Eosinophilia
- The main cause is the infiltration of inflammatory cell.
- Another cause may be the presence of lymphoid follicles with germinal centers.
- Sometimes reaction in the skin or neoplastic disease can lead to this disease.
What are the symptoms of Angiolymphoid Hyperplasia with Eosinophilia ?
- Pink to red-brown, dome-shaped, smooth-surfaced papules and nodules may appear on the face, scalp and ear.
- Main symptom is pain and unusual pulsation and bleeding.
- Angiolymphoid Hyperplasia with Eosinophilia can be reactive in some cases.
- It can lead to proliferation of thick-walled blood vessels lined by prominent endothelial cells.
Angiolymphoid Hyperplasia with Eosinophilia Treatment
- Medication such as intralesional injections of glucocorticoids, topical imiquimod, interferon alpha-2a, cytotoxic agents may be used to treat the disease but are not very effective.
- Surgical methods such as Mohs micrographic surgery, cryotherapy, pulsed-dye laser etc can be used but recurrence of the disease is possible.
