Amyloidosis Macular - Symptoms, Causes, Treatment and Home Remedies
What is Amyloidosis Macular ?
Amyloidosis Macular is flat, symmetrical, brownish/grayish and unclear infinite spots, with the typical reticulated, rippled appearance, sometimes itchy, on the upper back and arms, and frequently on the chest and buttocks which can change into patches of darkened skin. Its affect is commonly seen in women than in men.
Other name is Macular Amyloidosis (MA).
Causes of Amyloidosis Macular
Constant friction and rubbing with a nylon brush or towel, horse-hair gloves or artificial and rough sponges to clean the skin may cause this disease.
What are the symptoms of Amyloidosis Macular ?
- Flat dusky-brown or grayish spots that may lead to patches of darkened skin.
- Spots appear on the upper back between the shoulder blades, on the chest and sometimes on the arms.
- In some patients there may be unusual brownish pigmentation over bony regions such as clavicle, scapula, vertebrae and limbs.
- Severity of itching varies from patient to patient.
Amyloidosis Macular Treatment
- Skin biopsy may be recommended.
- Sedating antihistamines are helpful but not effective.
- Combination of potent steroids, salicylic acid and bleaching agents can give partial results.
- Treatment using ultraviolet B (UV-B) light amy be useful in some cases.
- Surgical methods like laser vaporization, dermabrasion, electrodesiccation and curettage are other treatments.
