Acne Keloidalis - Symptoms, Causes, Treatment and Home Remedies
Acne Keloidalis means occurance of keloid like papules and plaques occipital scalp and the posterior part of the neck. It is also called as folliculitis keloidalis.The term keloidalis can define as “keloid-like” or “scar-like.” It arises when the back's hairs of the head and neck grow into the skin, then it become inflammed. It is a circular elevation of the skin with pus. The lesions of this disease are painful.
What are the Symptoms of Acne Keloidalis?
- One or several large plaques, which gradually enlarge for years.
- The color of band is usually dusky red. The touch of this band is smooth and firm and of keloidal consistency.
- Iitchy papules occures on the back of head just above the hair line.
Causes of Acne Keloidalis
- Short haircuts & shaving quite short usually less than 1/4 inch in length.
- Irritation of shirt's collar regularly.
- Regular use of antiepileptic drugs.
- The disease may experience for many years as new papules continue to form at intervals because they heal leaving behind hypertrophic or keloidal papules.
Treatment for Acne Keloidalis
- Treatment of acne keloidalis is taking care of the inflammation with antibiotics and steroid gels or intralesional steroid injections.
- Epilation laser therapy will help to control lesions of acne keloidalis.
- The treatments like Surgical removal or laser treatments also useful to control acne keloidalis.
- Aimed at preventing the ingrown hair in that place.
- Preventing the regrowth with a deep and widely precisioned removal. This treament may process may take approximetly weeks or even months.
- A combined retinoic acid (Retin-A) and a class 2 or 3 corticosteroid cream or gel in twise a day
- Oral antibiotics is also useful.
- Other treatments like preparations, pills by mouth, injections, the removal of single bumps.
