Livedo Reticularis (Marbled Skin)

Livedo Reticularis (Marbled Skin) implies a bluish-red reticular network enclosing islands of white skin seen usually on the legs, less so on the arms. Young girls are particularly affected in countries with a cold climate. In India , it is rare because of climate and clothing.

The reticular pattern is the result of the pattern of blood supply; the bluish network represents the anastomosis of arterial supply and the white islands' are the areas getting direct blood supply from below. Slowing of the circulation due to cold is responsible for marbled skin. Application of heat results in pigmentation over the bluish network - Ephelis ab igne
