Plastic surgery is not merely for a select and wealthy few. In the United States alone, over 10 million cosmetic procedures – both surgical and non-surgical – were performed during 2005 in areas ranging from Botox injections to tumor removal. That represents a 222 percent increase over the past eight years.

  • In 2003, about 8.7 million plastic surgery procedures were performed.
  • In 2002, about 7.0 million non-surgical procedures and about 1.7 million surgical procedures were executed.

* Liposuction - 324,000

* Nose reshaping – 298,000

* Breast augmentation – 291,000

* Eyelid surgery – 231,000

* Tummy tuck – 135,000

The top five most popular non-surgical procedures in 2005 include:

* Botox – 3.8 million

* Chemical peel (skin renewal) – 1 million

* Micordermabrasion (skin renewal) – 838,000

* Laser hair removal – 783,000

* Sclerotherapy (spider vein removal) – 590,000

Plastic Surgical Procedures Pursued by Men

One can see 8 percent increment in the plastic surgery methods adopted by men i.e 1.2 million of the total in the year 2003.

Statistics about Plastic Surgery in the year 2004

In 2004, an analysis was carried out by the experienced surgeons of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and it was estimated that 11.9 million surgical and non-surgical plastic surgery procedures were performed.

Surgical procedures are 18 % of the total and non-surgical procedures include 82 % of the total. There was a remarkable rise in the percentage of plastic surgery from the year 2003 to 2004.
