History of Plastic Surgery
The history of plastic surgery began more than 4,000 years ago. Although reconstructive surgery was used in India in 800 BC, the history of plastic surgery moved very slowly for thousands of years, especially in European medicine. (Eastern medicine’s history of plastic surgery is much more lengthy, with skin grafts and reconstruction described in several books on the history of plastic surgery.)
The history of plastic surgery in America owes much to the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASPRS). In the history of plastic surgery, no such organization for American plastic surgeons had existed prior to 1931. Important steps in American history of plastic surgery took place due to the work of this institution, such as recognition of the progress and history of plastic surgery by the American Board of Surgeons. ASPRS members created the first qualifying exam in the history of plastic surgery in the US, and a number of other organizations for promoting the future and history of plastic surgery sprang up in the years that followed
One can see the tremendous improvement in the history of plastic surgery since the past. In 8 th century BC, the famous gigantic Indian surgeon ‘Susrutha’ pursued plastic surgery with the help of skin grafting for reconditioning the skin of various people.
During the 1 st century BC, Romans restore the injured and smashed ears. In the mid of 15 th century, a rhinoplasty which is the plastic surgery of the nose was executed in the Europe . Plastic surgery for the head and face was established during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and contains higher complications.
In 1827, Dr. John Peter Mettauer was the first well known plastic surgeon of the United States who has executed the first cleft palate operation by using various devices. Sir Harold Gillies is known as the father of the current plastic surgery and has introduced several procedures for the latest plastic surgery.
Later on, aesthetic surgery was invented which concentrates more on the influence of the appearance of the patient’s attainment. An organization known as American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons was developed in 1931 which has no connection with the other organizations.
