Plastic Surgery for Cleft Lift and Palate

Palate and cleft lip plastic surgery is also referred as cheiloplasty. This type of plastic surgery takes about 12 to 18 months to repair it. Two plastic surgeries are needed for the two-sided cleft lips.

Clefts containing the lip and the palate are very essential in performing the plastic surgery. They can influence the speech, facial growth, weight gain, function of the middle ear and the feeding. The cleft lift and palate can affect feeding and psychological developement. The surgery is normally performed at about 10 weeks of age.
