We all experience sunburn

Everyone has experienced a certain degree sunburn that affects especially those with fairer skin. Spending too much time on the sun leads not only to sunburn but also damages the skin. We shouldn’t avoid the sun altogether, but safeguard our skin with creams that contain appropriate filters. After getting used to the sun we can spend more time getting suntan. Often young people try to get suntan quickly without using creams that leads to sunburn. The symptoms can be seen after two hours while they intensify after 12 hours of being on the sun. Taking care of our skin is not only needed but vital because our skin also plays an important role in ensuring our health. If the skin is healthy we are less likely to get infections.

Types of sunburn

The extent of sunburn depends on the degree, where the most severe 3rd degree sunburn requires immediate medical attention and shouldn’t be treated at home. With the first degree of sunburn there are red colour patches and some pain. The 2nd degree sunburn involves red colour skin as well as white bubbles. This condition should be treated with cool compresses and medications. It is not recommended to treat your sunburn with oil or butter because it creates the danger of infection as the skin is unable to breath.

Remedies suited for sunburn

Cold water that is not too cold can provide relief along with vinegar that relieves the sting. Relieve from sting and pain can also be achieved with poison ivy, calamine lotion, and chamomile herbs. Cold water needs to be applied gradually, lowering the temperature of the water until we can finally apply also ice.

Common home methods for sunburn

Another way to get relieve from sunburn is through the application of potato juice that needs to be extracted from potatoes with blender. After applying potato juice, the skin area needs to dry and rinsed with water.

This treatment can be followed with aloe vera cream that moisturizes the skin. If there are signs of infection a doctor should be consulted immediately.

Creams need to be cool and hydrating

The sunburn sin becomes dry and needs to be moisturized. We should avoid any creams that are oily, trying to apply only those creams that cool and hydrate the skin. We can apply compresses with yoghurt or butter milk that help to rejuvenate the skin. Vinegar that is mixed with water can also alleviate sunburn.

Never injure areas affected by sunburn

It is not recommended to pierce bubbles that appear along with sunburn that can lead to exposing our skin to infections. These remedies are only suitable for smaller areas of damaged skin. If we have to deal with large areas of infected skin we should consult the doctor. Such infection can be recognized when we can see pus that appears as a yellowish or white substance that fills the bubbles. This condition requires attention because the skin is exposed even more to infections.

Often sunburn is also associated with sunstroke that involves fever, headache, and higher blood pressure.
