How to Make Perfume – Tips and Homemade Recepies For Making Your Own Perfumes

The importance of perfumes in our lives

Perfumes are important in our lives because they can express our personality, improve our well being as well as make an impact. We all need to feel good about ourselves and want to smell just as well. High perfume prices can be discouraging, and the best aromas can be found not only in shops but can also be made at home. Homemade perfumes can be enjoyed as gifts while they are also unique and original. They can have relaxing properties and create different moods. Certain oils can create smells that can be made just for you.

Advantages of homemade perfumes

There are perfumes based on oil and alcohol. While certain oil perfumes become more popular, it is also easier to maintain control over these creations while you’ll be able to avoid chemical or damaging elements that are part of mainstream perfumes. There are also other advantages of homemade perfumes. Their scent can last longer if they are made from essential oils than the scent of perfumes from department stores. Oils also can create a more constant smell. They include both essential oils and fragrance oils. Essential oils are made from flowers and plants while fragrance oils are synthetic blends.

Scents that create perfumes

There three different levels of smell that are present when smelling perfume. The first level can be described as a top note that is what we smell immediately. It is the first immediate impact we experience. Scent in this phase is volatile and quickly evaporates. The second level is what we smell later that also makes the essence. It lasts longer while introducing the final scent and a base note that is the scent left on the skin. In the final stage the fragrance is more dominant giving the entire perfume the final characteristic. It is best to combine smells that are similar, such as combining different flower scents when making a flower based perfumes. It is also important to be careful about the ratios of all ingredients.

Ingredients for perfume making

Perfumes based on alcohol can be made from ethyl alcohol, distilled water, bergamot essential oil and your favourite essential oils. Oils that can be used include citrus oils, flower based oils, such as rose or iris, another flower based oil, and base oil that can include sandal wood or clover oil.

Alcohol based perfumes tips and recipes

Pour alcohol into a glass container and add oils slowly, mixing it together until they are all mixed together. Tighten the container and set it aside for 48 hours, then slowly add distilled water, mix it well together and set it aside again for three weeks in a cold and dark place. After three weeks this mixture needs to be filtered and then kept locked.

The importance of storage in perfume making

It is best to keep perfumes in dark glass containers because certain oils can be damaged when exposed to natural light while they can also react with plastic.
