Toothache Home Remedy

What causes toothache?

Toothaches affect people most severely, making even their movements difficult. Their causes differ and include dental cavities, gum diseases, tooth fracture, or sinusitis. Before we visit a dentist we can rinse our mouth and get rid of any chunks of food gathered inside the mouth. There may also be conditions such as disorders of the jaw. At times pain in the area of teeth or the jaw can be caused by ear infection, heart disease or sinuses. In this way, even a heart problem may manifest itself as a toothache or jaw pain.

Dental cavities most often cause toothaches

Dental cavities most often cause toothaches. They form in enamel that protects the inner living tooth tissue. Cavities can be caused by a type of bacteria that converts sugars into acid that dissolves the enamel. When the inner part of the tooth become exposed to bacterial toxins it causes toothaches.

When painkillers may be used

Home remedies may have only a temporary effect and may not eliminate the cause of pain. Toothache can be relieved with pain killers. Such measures may fail to relieve pain if there is an infection or inflammation in the pulp. Only those ailments that are caused by inflammation can be relieved with painkillers.

Homemade methods that relieve toothache

Other methods such as rinsing with salt water, using dental floss, applying alcohol on the affected area or massaging gums can provide some relieve for toothache. Ice cubes also reduce pain. It is also recommended to rinse mouth with cold water. While clove oil also helps along with garlic that has antibacterial properties, clove itself placed on the tooth relieves from pain.

Applying cloves for toothache

Cloves have antiseptic and analgesic properties. Crushed clove should be placed on the area that if affected by pain that should at least ease or pass entirely. It can also be simply pressed on the affected tooth. Clove oil can also be as effective.

Other essential oils can be applied to the tooth, including cinnamon, marjoram, and anise. Also onion has similar effects and can kill germs inside the mouth. Other ointments also useful in relieving toothache involve peppermint extract that needs to be applied on the affected areas with cotton.

Mouthwashes that alleviate toothache

If abscess causes toothache antibacterial mouthwash will alleviate pain. Alcohol can also be applied to the sore tooth. Infusions with herbs such as sage, chamomile or lemon balm have also anti inflammatory and analgesic properties.

Infection that causes toothache and complications

Tooth pulp infection causes pain at first only slight but then it increases and spreads. It may be associated with a swollen cheek and glands. At first changes are reversible and tooth pulp may be maintained. In the second stage changes are irreversible and the pulp may need to be removed and canal treatment performed. Pulp inflammation is caused by deep cavities, a filling that leaks, fractured tooth or other complications that are associated with treatment.
