Bad breath often involves poor dental health

Bad breath is often undetected by those who have this problem. The smell is responsible for sulphur compounds that gather in the mouth, being often parts of some meals, but mostly have to do with dental hygiene. Persistent bad breath is mostly caused by bacteria that involves the way we care for our teeth. They include gum problems and bacteria that gathers on out tongues. It is important to brush the surface of our tongue with a brush, plastic spoon, or tooth brush. The main source of bad breath is the white tarnish on top of the tongue.

Underlying medical conditions for bad breath

Medical reasons that cause bad breath involve, chronic sinusitis, flu, stomach cancer, stomach ulcers, infections involving digestive tract, and gastritis.

Bad breath and diseases

Another cause of bad breath may involve periodontal disease that needs to be examined by a dentist. Enlarged pockets in our teeth indicate periodontal disease. Also those that have frequent laryngitis may suffer from bad breath because of bacteria that remains following the disease.

Teeth problems need to be resolved first

The first step to cure bad breath is to recognize the reason behind it that should start with examining our teeth, gums, and perodontium. After fixing the teeth, there may be problems with our throat. We need to make sure that our hygiene is sufficient. Other problems that may be associated with bad breath can be caused by lungs or tinea.

Fluids and bad breath

When there is an insufficient amount of water in the organism and especially deficiencies in production of saliva, mainly caused by smoking, our mucous membrane may dry causing bad breath.

Foods that affect our dental health

To achieve a fresher breath it is important to remember that certain food such as camembert, roquefort or tuna can intensify bad breath. Drinking water can improve the quality of our breath significantly. We should also brush our teeth or gargle water after each meal.

What to eat and do to relieve bad breath

Sometimes what is causing bad breath is simply caused by not eating for a longer period of time.

Natural foods that eliminate bad breath include parsley, clover or cumin. Some improvement also can be made when gargling with lysterine, eating citrus fruits, or chewing a gum. It is crucial to brush your teeth at least twice a day. Brushing your teeth with baking soda instead of toothpaste can eliminate bad breath because it absorbs odors. Use dental floss to remove the remaining food at least once a day. When you feel that your mouth is dry you can also take mint chewing gum or water. Those remedies would only relieve bad breath for a short period of time. Drinking green tea has been know to eliminate bad breath because the compounds that are part of such tea fight the bacteria responsible for bad breath. Drinking green tea can resolve bad breath problems for longer without causing side effects caused by chemicals in other remedies, such as chewing gums.

Other medical conditions may be present

If bad breath persists longer than 24 hours it is recommended to consult the doctor, as it can be caused by diseases not mentioned yet, such as tumour, tuberculosis, syphilis, dehydration or lack of zinc.
