Dandruff - Homemade Remedy for Dandruff
Poor circulation of blood, poor hygiene and an improper diet are some of the causes of dandruff. Dandruff is of two types:
- Dry dandruff (which is also known as pityriasis capitis simplex in medical term)
- Waxy dandruff (pityriasis steatoides).
Dandruff is generally believed to be infections. From the cosmetologist's point of view, both forms of dandruff are to be considered contagious and may be spread by the use of common brushes, combs, towels, soaps and other articles. Take necessary precautions to clean and disinfect everything that comes in contact with the hair.
Dry dandruff is characterized by an itchy scalp and small white scales usually attached to the scalp or loosely scattered in the hair. The waxy or greasy type of dandruff accuse when the scaliness of the epidermis is mixed with sebum which causes it to stick to the scalp in patches. The itchiness causes the person to scratch the scalp. If the greasy scales are torn off, bleeding or oozing of sebum may follow. Medical treatment is advisable for this condition. If there is the slightest sign of dandruff, treat it without delay. There are a number of excellent preparations available in the market for curing it.
Homemede remedy for Dandruff
Two simple household remedies to fight dandruff are described below:
- Mix two tablespoons of cosmetic vinegar and six tablespoons hot water. Dab with cotton into the scalp, parting the hair with a comb. Preferably, apply it at bedtime and tie a scarf over the head to avoid staining the bedclothes. Next morning wash the hair with a shampoo. After the hair is thoroughly rinsed, pour over as a last rinse, a mixture of 3 tablespoons of cosmetic vinegar and a cup of hot water.
- Hot oil therapy is another method to cure dandruff. Massage hot oil into the scalp at bedtime. Next morning, an hour before the bath, rub lemon juice mixed with cosmetic vinegar into the scalp with cotton wool. Give the hair a good wash with egg shampoo. As a last rinse, use the juice of one lemon in a cup of hot water. Continue this treatment once or twice a week for three months.
Giving the hair and scalp a hot steam bath is useful. Massage hot oil and wrap a hot damp towel on the head like a turban, so that the steam can fight dandruff.
